Kardashian-Odom marriage ends

In a high-profile divorce case that has grabbed the attention of residents of Alberta, Khloe Kardashian filed for divorce from Lamar Odom in Los Angeles on Dec. 13. The reason for the break-up of the four-year marriage was listed as irreconcilable differences. During the spring of 2013, Kardashian laughed at critics who said their union wouldn’t last. Their courtship was a whirlwind, and their elaborate wedding was featured on a cable channel.

Odom’s difficulties go beyond his marital woes with Kardashian. On Dec. 9, he entered a no-contest plea to intoxicated driving, a misdemeanour offence. In August, the 34-year-old former professional basketball player was veering across the road as he drove his Mercedes-Benz. His 2012-2013 season did not go well as he played for the Los Angeles Clippers. He was a free agent but remained unsigned. He met with the team coach in November but apparently could not come to a resolution on his future with the team.

Odom stood out when he played for the Los Angeles Lakers from 2004 to 2011 and led the team to NBA titles in 2010 and 2011. Kardashian, 29, stars in a reality TV show with her sisters and mother. Odom hasn’t been on the show recently, and there have been suggestions that the marriage could be in trouble. In addition, she manages a clothing boutique with her sister. The couple was in another reality show with her superstar ex that didn’t last.

Resolving differences and coming to a financial agreement during a high-asset divorce might be complex. A family lawyer might be able to help clients work out an acceptable division of assets when a marriage ends.
