Michael Ross

Michael joined Kirk Montoute Dawson LLP as an associate in August 2019. He maintains a practice focused on family law, wills and estates, and mediation, and brings a practical, financially informed perspective to the resolution of legal disputes.

Michael earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary Faculty of Law in 2016. During law school, he volunteered with the Innocence Project, reflecting an early commitment to fairness and access to justice. He completed his articles at a full‑service firm in Leduc before being called to the Alberta Bar, and subsequently practiced at a small firm in Edmonton, where his work encompassed family law, real estate, and wills and estates. Michael later returned to Calgary to continue developing his practice with an emphasis on client‑focused and solution‑driven representation.

Prior to attending law school, Michael obtained a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Alberta, graduating with distinction. He worked for a large brokerage firm, gaining a strong foundation in personal finance and investing, followed by experience at a major insurance company handling a broad range of personal insurance matters. This background allows Michael to approach family and estate matters with a heightened awareness of financial planning, asset management, and long‑term implications for clients.

Michael is known for his thoughtful, approachable manner and his ability to clearly explain legal and financial concepts. He works collaboratively with clients to develop practical strategies tailored to their circumstances, whether through negotiation, mediation, or more formal legal proceedings.
